Le Méridien, St Julians: Waterfront hotel in Malta
Balluta Bay, with its unique architecture and its pleasant olive trees, is a picturesque location, hiding in a curve of the popular promenade that stretches from Sliema to St Julians. The bay is situated on the northeast coast of Malta within St. Julians itself. It is a popular recreation spot used for swimming, diving and water sports, with a triangular pjazza surrounded by cafés and shaded by Judas trees. It sill features a typical "Gabbana" (small hut selling snacks and refreshments). Its skyline is dominated by the neo-gothic Carmelite Parish Church and the stunning art nouveau Balluta Buildings, which are apartment buildings on the eastern shore, as well as a cluster of terraced townhouses in the local variant of Georgian-style architecture. Le Méridien St Julians Hotel & Spa is situated on the south shore of Balluta Bay, built on the grounds that once surrounded the 19th century Villa Cassar Torregiani.
MALTA: A GEM IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
Our Maltese Archipelago is situated in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, 93km south of Sicily. Malta, the largest inhabited island (where Le Méridien St Julians Hotel & Spa is located), Gozo and Comino have landscapes characterized by low hills with terraced fields. Malta has splendid coastlines, bays, beaches and coves to explore, including the magic Blue Grotto and its caves. Take a Karrozzin ride (a horse drawn carriage) through Mdina, the ancient capital, a preserved medieval placed nicknamed "the silent city". Window-shop and have a glass of excellent Maltese wine. Valletta, the Capital, is a walking city. Starting from Castille Square, visit St John's Co-Cathedral, the Palace of the Grand Masters and the National Museum, which houses an impressive archaeological collection.
Le Méridien St Julians Hotel & Spa is a great 5 star hotel located across the promenade of St Julians, which stretches up from the well-known night-life city of Paceville to the vibrant shopping center of Sliema. Hidden in a curve of Balluta Bay, the premises are far enough from noisy venues to allow a relaxing environment, yet a walk away of all centers of interests. Its central location makes it the perfect spot to start exploring the islands, starting with Valetta, which is a mere 20min away with the public transport - a local bus stop is adjacent to the Hotel and taxi services are available at concierge.
Whilst boasting a contemporary style in his interior design, this 5 star hotel in Malta beneficiates from authentic cultural whereabouts: it is set up on the former grounds of a 19th century Villa and sits opposite the Parish Church of our Lady of Mount Carmel.
GETTING THERE AND AROUND:
The international airport in Malta is located in Luqa and is 20 to 25 minutes away from our 5 star hotel, depending on traffic. We recommend getting a taxi from the taxi stand in the arrival lounge (check official prices) and ask the driver to drop you at the front entrance of Le Meridien in St Julians (Balluta Bay). There are always taxis available at the airport, and booking in advance is not required. To reach the Hotel by bus, one must first go to Valetta then change bus at the entrance of the city - direction St Julians, which may be a hassle with luggage and will take you more than an hour depending how long you may wait for the correspondence in Valetta. Should you wish to pre-book a car rental, we kindly advise to ask the company to deliver the car at the Hotel rather than at the airport and/or to use the car rental services available on the hotel ground as the road signage from the airport to the Hotel can be misleading. Although it is always recommended to keep an eye your belongings and although the Maltese way of driving can be surprising at first, even lonely travelers can have their mind at rest when traveling by bus or by taxi since Malta is a very safe country and criminality is close to non-existent.
